Editorial policy

We write for small-business operators who need a workable next step, not theory. Guides distinguish general operating practice from requirements that must be verified with a current official source.

Source hierarchy

For worker classification we prioritize IRS and Department of Labor material. For small claims, state court self-help and clerk resources. For chargebacks, card-network and processor documentation. For deliverability, mailbox-provider guidance. For commercial email compliance, FTC guidance.

Numbers and changing rules

We avoid state-specific small-claims limits, card-network monitoring thresholds, or other changing numbers unless a guide is explicitly researched and cited for that jurisdiction and date. When a rule varies by state, court, processor, or provider, the guide says so.

Corrections

Material factual corrections should be reflected in the guide's updated date and source list.
